Refurbishment of Hall of Residence

Details

The works were required to five blocks of flats containing 10 two person and 30 single person flats. The brief included complete refurbishment of the common areas (kitchen, shower, WC, lounge and corridor) to form part of a rolling refurbishment programme. The works consisted of upgrading the kitchen and shower facilities to provide a maintenance free environment. This was achieved, in part, with the provision Altro Whiterock to all wall and ceiling surfaces within the kitchens and self-contained pods incorporating a WC, WHB and Shower for the two person flats and single shower pods elsewhere. This project is currently on site and is anticipated to be completed on programme and within budget.

Career History

Steve is an experienced Chartered Building Surveyor with over 30 years in the construction industry. Steve has a broad range of expertise in a variety of building types and a diverse knowledge of construction. He provides professional building surveying advice to a national portfolio of Clients.
Commencing in the industry with a regional building contractor Steve received a good grounding in construction spending time with a variety of trades before working with the architect and surveyors department of the Metropolitan Police.
Since qualifying as a Chartered Building Surveyor in 1989, Steve has developed expertise in all aspects of Building Surveying with a particular interest in historical buildings. He is experienced in all types of commercial construction & development and has acted as client relationship manager to a number of public, commercial and education sector clients. Over the past decade he has developed particular expertise in Party wall matters and often acts as an expert in disputes between neighbours. He is often called upon to act as expert witness in construction disputes with particular strength in relation to quality and workmanship matters.
He is a partner in CSN Consulting LLP, the UKBS Plc Associate Practice in the North East of England.

Commencing in the industry as an architectural technician Eric gained extensive knowledge of refurbishment of a wide range of building types developing skills in the administering contracts from start to finish.
Eric qualified as a Chartered Building Surveyor in 1989 and has developed expertise in all aspects of Building Surveying with a particular interest in adaptation and refurbishment of properties for.
Eric is experienced in all types of commercial construction & development and has acted as client relationship manager to a number of public, commercial and education sector clients.

Career History

Steve worked for Cleveland County Council Architects Department in the land and building surveying section prior to undertaking a degree in Building Surveying at Thames Polytechnic, Hammersmith. Upon leaving college he joined Peter W Fall in Newcastle, later known as Peter Fall Cowie, working through the Newcastle office until 1989 before relocating to Middlesbrough to development and manage a new branch office. Steve became an equity partner in the firm in 1994 and since 2000 has developed and managed the Teesside office following the merger of the Middlesbrough, Darlington and Leeds offices into a single site.
Steve is now a partner in UKBS member firm CSN Consulting LLP responsible for delivery of property consulting services throughout North East England.

Experience

Steve has been responsible for undertaking and overseeing the full range of building surveying services for private residential and commercial clients together with Royal Mail, British Telecom, The Employment Service, Cleveland Cables, Housing Associations, Schools, Teesside University, Salvation Army, Dixons Stores Group, Lloyds Pharmacy, The Edinburgh Woollen Mill, Barclays Bank, Northern Rock, Caterpillar and individual projects for large National based companies.
These roles have involved the following principle areas of work:-

During his term in the Teesside area Steve has been heavily involved in residential surveys, specific defect inspections and analysis, insurance claims and negotiations with adjusters. Since 1981 Steve has regularly prepared expert evidence reports upon construction disputes, conducted meetings of experts, attendance at court including the provision of oral evidence. More recent work of this type has entailed regular work for North Yorkshire County Council Trading Standards Department producing reports for criminal proceedings against rouge traders. This included a brief appearance on BBC Watchdog in 2006.

We were approached by a private client who was wishing to convert dilapidated farm buildings to a high specification domestic residence, with particular care paid to accessibility due to limited mobility.

CSN designed a conversion scheme with level access throughout giving superb quality living accommodation whilst respecting the beautiful setting of the property, set in a rural conservation area.  We included an indoor pool into the development, with the addition of a counter current system could be used by the client for physiotherapy.

Complete Refurbishment of two wings (Four wards) of this Newcastle Hospitals NHS Trust facility.

Details

The project included the refurbishment of four wards of the hospital, providing new shower and bathroom facilities, the full redecoration and planning of the spacial arrangement to improve the layout.  Contract value was over £0.5 Million with a 28 week contract period.
